Parma – The Dome.
An experimental test has been conducted on the 6 tie-rods of the main inner vault of the Parma Dome. The tie-rods has a strategic support function. A platform has been used to reach the tie-rods 21-meters haigh. Photo gallery The technique of diagnosis, based on the modal analysis of the rods, is a completely non-destructive and non-invasive method to monitor the health status of these critical structural elements. |

Some experimental results. In conjunction with a numerical model, the ND technique has detected the internal stresses of the tie-rods. Some of the rods are loaded over the material yield stress.
